London Revisited: Day 1 Part 3

11 07 2008

Well I have been knee deep in camp work, to the point where I have completely forgotten my blog! But the Good Lord has knocked me down this week and reminded me that I have got to rely on Him in a mighty way. I had forgotten many of the lessons He has been teaching me and was trying to get it all done with my own strength and talent (which I might add is extremely pathetic when you compare it to the Fathers).

Anyway I wanted to post a few more shots from London then I plan on adding shots from Wales in the next couple of days. So Here we go:

Also please be praying for me as the countdown begins for my trip to the Northern Africa. I am so excited and anxious at the same time. I leave in 29 days! I just cant believe it is so close! I will post more details as I have them.

London Chapter 1 Verse 1: Harrods- Day 1

10 03 2008

I am sure you have been wondering if I was ever going to post anything from my trip to London. Well you may now stop holding your breathe because here it is! The first of many installations on the short but sweet trip that Crystal and I made at the end of February.

Chapter 1 Verse 1: Harrods
So once we found where we were staying and met our contact in London we had the rest of the afternoon to venture out into the chaos that is Central London. We hopped on the tube and set out to find a cupcake shop across town that Crystal was dying to try. I convinced her that we should stop at Harrods since it was on the way. I had heard about Harrods and knew that it would be worth the stop. So when we stepped out of the darkness of the underground and into the sunny borough, Harrods loomed over us like the over-indulgent shopping palace that it is, proud and regal. So our whole reason for going in to Harrods was to visit with a few locals to see if they knew where to find this cupcake place. After several odd looks and pleasant replies of “no sorry never heard of the place” we finally were convinced by the Customer Service Rep at Harrods that we should check out their bakery where we were sure to find great faerie cakes in the Great Food Hall. So we make our way into the great culinary market experience I have ever had. You name it they have it. We even got to listen to a guy sing Italian opera while tossing pizza into a perfect crust! It was a true sensory experience.

Needless to say…we never found the cupcake shop but we both loved our visit to Harrods and Crystal did find some cupcakes in their bakery and I spent more money on some fresh cherries than I would on an entire meal here in the U.S.!

Here are a few shots from around Harrods (sorry there are no shots from inside the store…I was to busy drooling at all of the amazing things they had on display).

The view of the street and buildings around Harrods:

We saw this man walking the 4 huge dogs! 3 great Danes and 1 bull mastiff I think. Let’s just say he had his hands full! I loved it! I wondered if he had to hire someone else just to be the pooper-scooper for this pack?!

Here are a few more shots of the housing around Harrods…It was so cute and what I always imagined London would be like.

Here is Harrods from down the street as we headed off for more adventures….harrodsvertical.jpg

Leavin on a Jet Plane…

22 02 2008

Well today I am packin my bags and tomorrow I am boarding the plane, setting out across the cold waters of the Atlantic. My destination is the land of fish n’ chips, tea time, and a giant clock! I can’t wait.

This will be my first trip over seas and all I can think is: it’s about time!!! I have wanted to travel internationally my entire life and I really can’t believe it has taken this long to make it happen. I will be going to London, England and Cardiff, Wales all in a matter of 4 days! It is gonna be crazy.

As soon as I get back I will be posting many blogs I am sure with plenty of pictures as well. Please pray that our journey will be safe and uneventful, that my luggage arrives safely, and that my sister Crystal and I stay healthy and enjoy our time together.

More coming soon…

4 02 2008

Here it is. I have done it. With a complete lack of planning or purpose I am stepping into the role of Blogger. I see so many that are smart and clever and yet I am not sure where to begin this adventure. I guess I will start with my wild-eyed dreams for what may appear on this blog.

First off will be my adventures in photography. It is a love of mine but my love has been on the ropes for a little while now. However I have found a new appreciation for carrying my camera with me at all times and I hope to capture some moments of time along my journey. (Who cares about dusty lenses when they expose something golden.)

In addition I will attempt to create an account of the places I have been and the people I have met down the road. I dream about being an amazing story teller but I seem to get the amazement of the story stuck in my head, leaving the listeners scratching theirs. So to combat that I think a blog will help me edit my thoughts in a concise yet digestible form.

I am looking forward to the sights, tastes, smells, sounds and experiences of 2008. London in February with snow and fog, Texas all summer with mosquitoes and watermelon, Egypt in August with Pyramids and ancient architecture. I can’t wait. So join me if you have the time. I will post when I can but I make no promises regarding my consistency.

Here are a few shots to kick off this journey. These were  taken at St. Augustine Beach in Florida during one of my summer road trips! It was a beautiful morning at the beach. Enjoy!
